The rules for writing chemical formula

In addition to the elements of the periodic table, a large number of abbreviations for organic radicals are supported: Abu, Acet, Acm, Adao, Ade, Aib, Ala, Arg, Argp, Asn, Asnp, Asp, Aspp, Asu, Asup, Boc, Bom, Bpy, Brz, Bu, Bum, Bz, Bzl, Bzlo, Cha, Chxo, Cit, Citp, Clz, Cp, Cy, Cys, Cysp, Cyt, Dde, Dnp, Et, Fmoc, For, Gln, Glnp, Glp, Glu, Glup, Gly, Gua, Hci, Hcip, His, Hisp, Hser, Hserp, Hx, Hyp, Hypp, Ile, Ivdde, Leu, Lys, Lysp, Mbh, Me, Mebzl, Meobzl, Met, Mmt, Mtc, Mtr, Mts, Mtt, Nle, Npys, Nva, Odmab, Orn, Ornp, Pbf, Pen, Penp, Ph, Phe, Phepcl, Phg, Pmc, Ppa, Pro, Prop, Py, Pyr, Sar, Ser, Serp, Sta, Stap, Tacm, Tbdms, Tbu, Tbuo, Tbuthio, Tfa, Thi, Thr, Thrp, Thy, Tips, Tms, Tos, Trp, Trpp, Trt, Tyr, Tyrp, Ura, Val, Valoh, Valohp, Xan

Nevertheless:

1. The formula validator cannot cover all possible surprising cases of errors in the most complex topic of parsing chemical formulas, please be careful, part of the responsibility for the correctness of calculations lies on your side!

2. For correct calculation, enter the correct register of characters, in accordance with the periodic table

3. Indicate crystallization water or double nature of salt with * symbol
Input example: CuSO4*5H2O, ZnCl2*2KCl. Fractional amounts of molecules separated by "." are acceptable, for example CuSO4*0.5H2O

4. Currently not supported yet:
a) The multiplier before a compound formula, for example 2CuSO4*5H2O, only affects the first sub-formula; brackets 2(CuSO4*5H2O) are not currently supported
b) Ions, for example SO42-, are not yet supported; entering them will cause an error.
c) Non-stoichiometric, fractional amounts of atoms, for example Na0.1WO3 (“tungsten bronzes”)
d) Calculations for substances of variable composition with an unknown number of atoms, for example SnO(1-x), InxSnO(1-x) (“indium-tin glass ITO”)
e) Entering several formulas separated by a comma or period

Definitions of molar mass, molecular mass, mole, atomic mass unit

*Molar mass BaTiO3 is the mass of 1 mole of a substance BaTiO3

*1 mol is the amount of substance containing Avogadro’s number 6.02*1023 particles (atoms, molecules, ions, electrons or any other objects). For example, 1 mole of... kkk stars contains 6.02*1023 stars, perhaps this is their number in the Universe. And 1 mole of electrons is the famous Faraday number F = 96500 C, widely used in modern electrochemistry.

The molar mass BaTiO3, expressed in g/mol, is numerically the same as the molecular mass BaTiO3 - the mass of the molecule, expressed in amu (atomic mass unit). However, one must clearly understand the difference between molar mass BaTiO3 and molecular weight BaTiO3, understanding that they are only equal numerically and differ in dimension.

*Atomic mass unit, a.m.u., constant reciprocal to Avogadro's number. Sometimes referred to as Da, Dalton. It is an off-system unit of mass, defined as 1/12 the mass of an unbound, unionized, unexcited carbon-12 atom. It is 1.66*10-27 kg.

*Interesting fact: "Mole Day" is a holiday celebrated by North American chemists on October 23 between 6:02 am and 6:02 pm (6:02 10/23 in American time and date notation).
